The Good, Good, Father!

With Father’s Day looming round the corner, I thought I would put pen to paper and share with you about an incredulous love of the “good, good, father.”

A Father’s love is something to embrace and cherish as children well into our adulthood.  But for some this may not be the case, or, experience of a true meaning of a Father’s love, with tenderness or compassion. For some, this can be a painful reminder to something meaningful or missing in their lives.

For others, our earthly fathers have been our hero, or, a bright light guiding us through our darkest moments.  A father’s love has an indelible imprint on our hearts that cannot be removed, that will stay with us beyond the grave.  Our father gives us strength when we have no muscles to take or uphold the days ahead.

“The Lord is like a compassionate father to those who fear and worship him.”

Psalm 103:13

The following love letter invites us to reflect on a father who often stands quietly in the background of our mind of thoughts, yet whose presence deeply shapes our lives in such profound ways.  A good father is not defined just by perfection, but by holiness, presence, patience, love and purpose.  He is a leading light that guides, like a protector, a teacher, which is our source of strength. In this love letter we will explore the qualities that makes our heavenly father, a truly great one – not just in grand gestures, but in the everyday moments that leave lasting and eternal presence.

My Dear Child,

You may not feel like you fully know Me yet,

but I have known you—completely—from the very beginning.

I’ve seen every moment of your life,

every step you’ve taken,

every rise, every fall,

every quiet thought you never voiced out loud.

Nothing about you is unfamiliar to Me.

I was there before you took your first breath,

and I have been with you in every breath since.

You are not random, and you are not an accident.

You were crafted with intention,

always with care,

with a purpose that reaches deeper than you realize.

You carry My design in every part of you.

The way you think,

the way you feel deeply,

the way you love—

these things reflect pieces of Me.

You live, move, and exist inside a story

I have been writing with you in mind.

I knew your name before anyone ever spoke it.

I imagined your face before anyone ever saw it.

All your days—everyone—are known to Me.

Nothing surprised Me.

Nothing about you has ever disappointed Me.

You are wonderfully made.

Every detail of you matters to Me.

And no matter what anyone else has said—

or what you’ve told yourself in moments of pain—

you are treasured.

I am not distant.

I’m not angry with you.

I’m not waiting for you to fail my love.

My heart toward you has always been love—

steady, patient, unwavering love.

I want to walk with you in your joy

and carry you in your heartbreak.

I want to show you that hope is still possible,

even on the days when everything feels heavy.

Every good thing you’ve ever received

has carried My fingerprints.

And every good thing that is still ahead

is held safely in My hands.

When you feel lost,

know that I am not far.

When you feel unworthy,

know that I have already called you Mine.

When you feel alone,

know that you have never been without Me.

If you look for Me,

you will find Me—

not with shame,

not with fear,

but with open arms

and a heart that has waited for you all along.

Trust Me with the dreams inside you,

because I’m the one who planted them.

Walk with Me,

and you will see more than you ever imagined possible.

Know that I am with you.

Know that I am for you.

Know that I love you—

deeply, fully, endlessly.

Let’s pray…

Heavenly Father, I thank you for your love and guidance throughout my life, thanking you for the abundant blessings that you have bestowed upon me, that have sustained and strengthened me throughout the highs and lows of my existence.

I thank you for your faithfulness, and the joy you give me in your presence.

I ask now for your wisdom and direction as I pursue you each day as I overcome challenges in my life.

Father, I thank you for your perfect plan, as I take each day a step of faith to surrender all that I am to you.

Father, if there are any areas of unforgiveness or hurt towards my earthly dad, will you now give me the strength through your precious spirit to see my dad through your loving eyes and to forgive as you have forgiven me. 

Bring kingdom restoration into our relationship, to repair anything that has damaged my relationship with my dad.

I thank you that you are my good, good father!
