The Good, Good, Father!

With Father’s Day looming round the corner, I thought I would put pen to paper and share with you about an incredulous love of the “good, good, father.”

A Father’s love is something to embrace and cherish as children well into our adulthood.  But for some this may not be the case, or, experience of a true meaning of a Father’s love, with tenderness or compassion. For some, this can be a painful reminder to something meaningful or missing in their lives.

For others, our earthly fathers have been our hero, or, a bright light guiding us through our darkest moments.  A father’s love has an indelible imprint on our hearts that cannot be removed, that will stay with us beyond the grave.  Our father gives us strength when we have no muscles to take or uphold the days ahead.

“The Lord is like a compassionate father to those who fear and worship him.”

The following love letter invites us to reflect on a father who often stands quietly in the background of our mind of thoughts, yet whose presence deeply shapes our lives in such profound ways.  A good father is not defined just by perfection, but by holiness, presence, patience, love and purpose.  He is a leading light that guides, like a protector, a teacher, which is our source of strength. In this love letter we will explore the qualities that makes our heavenly father, a truly great one – not just in grand gestures, but in the everyday moments that leave lasting and eternal presence.

My Daughter,

You may not know who I am, but I know everything there is, to know about you.

I know When you sit down and when you rise up. I am familiar with all that you are and especially your ways.  Even the very hairs on your head are numbered, I intimately made you!

You were created and designed in the very image of Me. In my presence you live, move and exist. You are the offspring of my kingdom and purposeful design.

I knew your name before you were even born, like a twinkle in your parents’ eyes.

I thought about you and chose you when I planned creation, with all its delicate intricacies.

From the beginning you were never a mistake, because all of your days were written and planned in the most, holiest place between the pages of my written and spoken word, recorded and seated in heaven, within the scrolls of names, like a star on the horizon.

I knew the exact time of your birth to take place and where you would grow up. I ordained and spoke your name before you were even looked upon.

I want to tell you with the inner most passion that burns within my heart, that you are so fearfully and wonderfully made by my gentle caring hands.

In that most inner secret place, I wove you together like a tapestry of reflective, character and nature in who I am, as your good, good, father.

I am a loving and caring father, not a single bone I possess would harm or hurt you, because I am the complete expression of love and forgiveness.

As My child, my ultimate desire is to excessively share my love with you, beyond words, because you are my daughter and I am your, good father.

My offering of hope, love, acceptance and belonging goes beyond the earthly realms of a father that could ever be.  Because I am the perfect FATHER!

Every good thing that I have given, comes from my hand. For I am your ‘Jehovah Jireh’ the Lord who provides and meets all of your needs.

Your future plans have always been filled with hope, because I love you with an eternal everlasting love, unconditionally!

My thoughts towards you are like the countless granules in the sand, too many to count.

I will sing over you with great joy and excitement, because I love you!

My heart and actions towards you are never cruel or selfish, but in doing good to you.

You are like a treasured possession that I carefully watch over and display to others, in celebrating who you are, my loving daughter.

My yearning and desire is to make you known with all of my very being, heart and spirit.

I want to show you the great and wonderful things that are in the most secret place of the chasm of my being.

If you choose to seek me with all of your heart, then you will find me and I will be waiting for you, with an open embrace of love and acceptance.

Delight in all that I am, and I will give you the innermost desires of your heart. Because it is I who gave you those desires in the first place.

If you trust me and exercise your faith because of me, I am able to do exceedingly and abundantly more than you could ever dream or think of.  I am the good, good, father!

Daily, I am your greatest encourager, speaking to you through words of wisdom, affection, love and discipline, because you are mine and I am yours, a good, good, father.

I listen and comfort you when you are in trouble, or broken hearted.  It is in that place when I am the closest to you, upholding your hurting and broken heart, making sure it keeps alive and beating. I am the breath within the soul of your purposeful existence, because I am the ‘good, good, father’.

Liken to a shepherd who carries a lamb, I have always carried you close to my heart.

There will come a time and season when I wipe away every tear from your eyes.  The pain and suffering that you have endured will be taken away in a fleeting moment for ever!

I am your good father, and I have always loved you, even as I love my son, Jesus.

In Jesus, my love for you is to be seen by all. My son, Jesus, is the perfect representation of who I am, the good, good, father.

My son, Jesus, died so that I could get to know you more intimately without blemish or sin. To be reconciled to me, as your father.

Giving my son Jesus, unto death and then into eternal life, is my audacious expression of my affectionate love for you.

I gave up everything in order to gain your love.

If you have received the gift of salvation through my blessed son Jesus, then you have received me in all its fullness.

Nothing on this earth can ever separate you from my love again!

I am your loving father, and always be, if you choose to accept me as your, good, good, father!

Let’s pray…

Heavenly Father, I thank you for your love and guidance throughout my life, thanking you for the abundant blessings that you have bestowed upon me, that have sustained and strengthened me throughout the highs and lows of my existence.

I thank you for your faithfulness, and the joy you give me in your presence.

I ask now for your wisdom and direction as I pursue you each day as I overcome challenges in my life.

Father, I thank you for your perfect plan, as I take each day a step of faith to surrender all that I am to you.

Father, if there are any areas of unforgiveness or hurt towards my earthly dad, will you now give me the strength through your precious spirit to see my dad through your loving eyes and to forgive as you have forgiven me. 

Bring kingdom restoration into our relationship, to repair anything that has damaged my relationship with my dad.

I thank you that you are my good, good father!
